Anesthesia and Sedation Options
Feeling nervous about dental treatment is more common than you may think, and there is no reason to feel embarrassed about it. At Davis & Beyer Dental Health Professionals, we want you to feel heard, respected, and as comfortable as possible from the moment you arrive.

Whether you are visiting us for a crown, tooth extraction, or more involved procedure, please tell us if you are feeling anxious. We will listen to your concerns, explain what to expect, and discuss anesthesia or sedation options that may help make your experience easier.
Choosing the Right Option for You

Anesthesia and sedation are not one-size-fits-all. Before making a recommendation, one of our doctors will consider:
  • The type and length of your procedure
  • Your level of dental anxiety
  • Your health and medication history
  • Your previous experiences with dental treatment
  • The level of support you may need to feel comfortable
We encourage you to ask questions and share anything that has made dental visits difficult in the past. Together, we can choose an approach that supports both your comfort and your treatment needs.
Local Anesthesia

Local anesthesia is used to numb the area being treated. It temporarily blocks pain sensations while allowing you to remain awake and aware throughout the procedure.

We commonly use local anesthesia for fillings, crowns, extractions, and many other dental treatments. Before beginning, we will check that the area is numb and encourage you to let us know if you feel uncomfortable or need a break.
Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, sometimes called “laughing gas,” is inhaled through a small mask placed over your nose. It can help you feel calmer and more relaxed while remaining awake and able to communicate with our team.

The effects generally lessen soon after the gas is stopped. Before you leave, we will make sure you have recovered appropriately and provide any instructions you need.
Oral Sedation

Oral sedation involves taking prescribed medication before your procedure to help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation. You will remain conscious, but you may feel drowsy and remember less about your appointment.

If oral sedation is part of your treatment plan, we will give you detailed instructions in advance. You will need a responsible adult to drive you to and from your appointment and remain available as directed.
IV Sedation

IV sedation is administered through a vein and takes effect quickly. The medication can be adjusted during treatment to help you remain deeply relaxed. Local anesthesia is also typically used because sedation and numbing serve different purposes.

Patients receiving IV sedation will need a responsible adult to provide transportation and follow the aftercare instructions given by our team. Availability and suitability will depend on your procedure, health history, and individual needs.

Your Comfort Matters to Us

Our goal is to help you receive the dental care you need without feeling dismissed, rushed, or overwhelmed. We will explain your options in clear language, answer your questions honestly, and let you know what to expect before, during, and after treatment.

You are always welcome to speak up, ask for clarification, or tell us when you need a moment. We can also agree on a simple signal before beginning so you can let us know if you need a break.

If dental anxiety has caused you to delay treatment, please, let’s start with a conversation. Contact the office today to schedule a consultation and learn which anesthesia or sedation options may help you feel more at ease.
